• Krasner threatens arrest and conviction for ICE agents who break law
  • Says Trump cannot pardon state court convictions in Pennsylvania
  • Warning issued in response to Minneapolis shooting by federal agent

PHILADELPHIA, PA (TDR) — Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner issued a stark warning to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents Thursday, vowing to arrest, prosecute and convict any federal officers who commit crimes in his city.

“If any law enforcement agent, any ICE agent, is going to come to Philly to commit crimes, then you can get the F out of here,” Krasner said during a press conference. “Because if you do that here, I will charge you with those crimes, you will be arrested, you will stand trial, you will be convicted, whether it’s in state or federal court.”

The progressive prosecutor emphasized that President Donald Trump cannot pardon state court convictions, directly challenging federal immigration enforcement operations.

“Do you hear me, ICE agents? Do you hear me, National Guard? Do you hear me, military? You’re going to jail if you commit crimes in the city of Philadelphia.”

Krasner’s remarks came in response to the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, 37, by an ICE agent in Minneapolis Wednesday. The shooting occurred during the second day of what Department of Homeland Security called the largest immigration enforcement operation in history.

The Philadelphia DA held a press conference with Philadelphia Sheriff Rochelle Bilal, City Council members and community leaders hours before a scheduled protest outside City Hall.

Krasner called Trump the “criminal-in-chief” and said the Minneapolis shooting appeared unlawful based on widely circulated video footage.

“There is no justification whatsoever in the law for shooting to death someone who is leaving having blocked the street, if that’s even what she did. No justification whatsoever under the Constitution, the U.S. Supreme Court, president or the law for doing that.”

The district attorney dismissed federal claims that the ICE agent fired in self-defense, using the same expletive employed by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey in calling those claims “bullshit.”

Sheriff Joins Warning

Bilal made similar remarks to Krasner’s, calling ICE agents “made-up, fake, wannabe law enforcement” who wear masks to hide their identities.

“Those that come into our communities wearing a mask to commit [a] crime, thank God for our District Attorney Larry Krasner, who said he’s going to lock them up.”

“You don’t want this smoke, because we will bring it … to you.”

Krasner clarified his warning was not directed at all law enforcement officers but specifically at those who break the law.

“There are honest, decent, moral law enforcement officers by the bushel — this is not for you. This is for any one of your colleagues who thinks they are above the law.”

Track Record of Charging Officers

The Democratic prosecutor pointed to his office’s history of securing criminal homicide convictions against police officers as evidence he would follow through on his threat.

“Anybody who doubts that this administration will charge criminal homicide, well, I think we know that we have had a number of historic convictions of police officers for criminal homicide. We will charge any ICE agent who tries this nonsense here.”

Krasner announced he will hold another press conference Monday about “ICE issues,” including enforcement at the Criminal Justice Center, his ability to prosecute cases where ICE interferes, and the harm immigration enforcement causes to public safety.

Conservative Criticism

Some Philadelphia residents expressed confusion over why their district attorney was holding a press conference about an incident that occurred more than 1,100 miles away.

Conservative outlets noted Krasner received approximately $1.7 million from George Soros-funded political action committees during his 2017 campaign, representing about 90 percent of his campaign funding.

Krasner has been a vocal critic of Trump, regularly calling him a “fascist” and comparing him to Adolf Hitler. The progressive prosecutor has opposed National Guard deployments in U.S. cities throughout Trump’s presidency.

Critics argue Krasner’s soft-on-crime policies have contributed to rising violence in Philadelphia, with homicides increasing significantly during his tenure. Former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter previously criticized Krasner’s comments about crime as “some of the worst, most ignorant, and most insulting comments I have ever heard spoken by an elected official.”

Philadelphia Police Protocols

Krasner noted that Philadelphia Police Department rules direct officers not to stand in front of vehicles and not to shoot into cars unless they are being shot at, contradicting the actions of the Minneapolis ICE agent.

The district attorney emphasized that blocking streets is “something protesters, suffragettes have done forever” and constitutes “an incredibly minor offense” that does not justify deadly force.

Immigrant advocacy groups including No ICE Philly, the ACLU of Pennsylvania, and ethnic community organizations organized a protest Thursday at 5 p.m. calling for ICE to be “kicked out of Philly” and for tangible protections for immigrants.

As tensions escalate between progressive local prosecutors and federal immigration enforcement, will Krasner’s threat to charge ICE agents in state court set a precedent for other Democratic district attorneys across the country?
