• Basketball Wives star Brittany Renner requests court increase child support from $5,500 to $35,000 monthly following P.J. Washington's $90 million Mavericks extension.
  • Renner claims she struggles to afford California's high cost of living while Washington and his wife post designer purchases and luxury vacations on social media.
  • Former couple's four-year-old son caught between Target shopping trips and designer lifestyle as hearing scheduled for November.

LOS ANGELES (TDR) — Brittany Renner is asking a court to dramatically increase child support payments from Dallas Mavericks forward P.J. Washington, claiming the current $5,500 monthly amount is insufficient to provide their son with a lifestyle matching his father's wealth.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ Sports, Renner filed paperwork in Los Angeles County this week requesting the court mandate Washington pay "at least $35,000" per month to support their four-year-old son, Paul Jermaine Washington III. The request comes shortly after Washington signed a four-year, $90 million contract extension with the Mavericks in early September.

California Cost of Living

The Basketball Wives star argued that circumstances have drastically changed since the original November 2024 child support agreement was established in North Carolina. Renner and their son relocated to California late last year, where she says the significantly higher cost of living has left her financially strained.

"I cannot afford the high cost of living given the current child support orders," Renner wrote in the filing. She added that Washington exercises "less than 1/2 of the visitation time he is entitled to," leaving her to shoulder the majority of parenting responsibilities while "struggling to make ends meet."

The social media influencer characterized the disparity between their living situations as stark and growing. She claimed she currently resides in what she describes as a "humble Airbnb rental in West Hills" and purchases her son's clothing at Target, a far cry from the luxury lifestyle Washington provides for his other children.

"I cannot provide our son a life anywhere similar to that of his father," Renner stated in the documents.

Lifestyle Disparity Claims

Renner's filing specifically highlighted Washington's social media presence and spending habits as evidence he can afford substantially higher support payments. She noted that the NBA player and his wife, Alisah Chanel, regularly post about their affluent lifestyle on Instagram and other platforms.

"They have multiple luxury vehicles, constantly post their designer shopping clothes, and boast about luxury vacations," Renner wrote. "They also constantly post their children wearing designer clothing."

The filing referenced Chanel's designer handbag collection specifically, noting she owns at least 10 Birkin bags, luxury items that typically cost between $10,000 and $500,000 each depending on materials and rarity.

Washington married Chanel in October 2023 after getting engaged while she was pregnant with their child in 2022. The couple shares a child together, and Chanel has a son from a previous relationship whom Washington helps raise.

The Contract Extension

Washington's recent contract extension with the Mavericks significantly increased his earning power, making him one of the team's key players financially. The four-year, $90 million deal keeps him in Dallas through the 2028-29 season, with an annual average salary of $22.5 million.

After the contract extension was reported in early September, Washington responded on social media by writing "God is good," acknowledging the substantial payday.

Renner's filing suggested the NBA forward's increased wealth should translate to increased support for their son, arguing that the child deserves to benefit from his father's financial success regardless of which parent he's staying with at any given time.

Tumultuous Co-Parenting History

The former couple's relationship has been fraught with public conflict since their 2021 breakup, which occurred shortly after their son was born. Renner and Washington began dating in 2019 after she was spotted courtside at one of his University of Kentucky games.

In September, a viral video captured a heated exchange between Renner, her mother, Washington, and his wife during a custody handoff at Renner's home. The confrontation included accusations about inadequate financial provisions and Washington's visitation patterns.

The November 2024 consent order that established the current $5,500 monthly payment also required Washington to pay a one-time lump sum of $130,000 to cover "any and all existing child support accruing prior to the entry of this consent order, as well as attorney's fees." Court documents show Washington has paid all amounts owed and currently has "$0 in arrears."

Public Speculation and Reality

For years, rumors circulated online claiming Renner received upwards of $200,000 monthly in child support from Washington. The social media personality repeatedly pushed back against those figures, at one point stating she actually received only $2,500 per month before the official amount was revealed through court filings this week.

The revelation of the actual $5,500 monthly figure sparked renewed online debate about appropriate child support levels for high-earning athletes and the financial responsibilities of co-parents.

Additional Financial Demands

Beyond the requested increase to $35,000 monthly, Renner is also asking the court to order Washington to pay her attorney's fees, which total $50,000. The filing did not specify whether these fees relate to the current modification request or accumulated legal costs from their ongoing custody and support disputes.

A hearing on Renner's request to increase child support payments has been scheduled for November. Neither Washington nor his representatives have publicly commented on the filing.
