• Mark Epstein submitted FBI tip claiming Trump authorized his brother's death
  • DOJ labels allegations unfounded in statement accompanying 30,000-page release
  • Official investigations concluded Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide in 2019

WASHINGTON, DC (TDR) — The Department of Justice firmly rejected allegations Tuesday that President Donald Trump authorized the death of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, calling the claim "unfounded and false" as it released nearly 30,000 pages of documents under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

The Epstein murder allegation Trump denial came after documents revealed that Mark Epstein, the 71-year-old brother of Jeffrey Epstein, filed an FBI tip in February 2023 claiming his brother "was murdered in his jail cell" and alleging Trump "authorized is [sic] murder."

Justice Department Issues Strong Rebuttal

The Department of Justice addressed the Epstein murder allegation Trump connection in a statement accompanying Tuesday's document release, explicitly declaring the claims lack credibility. "Some of these documents contain untrue and sensationalist claims made against President Trump that were submitted to the FBI right before the 2020 election," the DOJ stated.

"To be clear: the claims are unfounded and false, and if they had a shred of credibility, they certainly would have been weaponized against President Trump already."

The statement emphasized the department's commitment to transparency while noting that document releases do not validate the allegations contained within them. Mark Epstein's tip was submitted through the FBI's National Threat Operations Center on February 22, 2023, claiming his brother was killed because he was "about to name names."

Official Investigations Ruled Death A Suicide

New York City Chief Medical Examiner Barbara Sampson ruled Jeffrey Epstein's death a suicide by hanging on August 16, 2019, six days after he was found unresponsive in his Metropolitan Correctional Center cell. The 66-year-old financier was awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.

Both the FBI and Justice Department Inspector General conducted extensive investigations into the circumstances surrounding Epstein's death. A comprehensive Inspector General report detailed security failures at the jail but concluded there was no evidence of foul play.

The medical examiner's determination has faced scrutiny from some quarters. Dr. Michael Baden, a pathologist hired by Mark Epstein to observe the autopsy, claimed injuries were "more consistent with homicidal strangulation" than suicide. However, multiple forensic experts noted that neck fractures can occur in suicidal hangings, particularly in older individuals.

Transparency Act Mandates Document Release

The latest disclosure came under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which Trump signed into law November 19, 2025, after Congress passed it with near-unanimous support. The legislation required Attorney General Pam Bondi to release all unclassified DOJ records related to Epstein within 30 days.

Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY) led the bipartisan effort to force the document release. The House voted 427-1 to pass the measure, with the Senate adopting it by unanimous consent.

Mark Epstein has publicly maintained his belief that his brother was murdered, telling the Daily Beast he questions who would have "the ability or the authority to orchestrate this in a federal jail." He noted the FBI never contacted him about his tip submission.

Context Of Controversial Death

Epstein's death occurred amid significant security lapses at the Metropolitan Correctional Center. Guards failed to check on him every 30 minutes as required and allegedly falsified log entries. He had been removed from suicide watch approximately a week after a previous incident where he was found with neck bruising.

Trump and Epstein were friends for years before a falling out in the early 2000s. Authorities have never accused Trump of wrongdoing related to Epstein's criminal activities. The president has consistently denied any knowledge of Epstein's crimes and any personal involvement in the sex trafficking operation.
