- Marjorie Taylor Greene urged supporters to reject "civil war" incitement after federal agents killed 37-year-old nurse Alex Pretti
- Greene drew parallels to January 6, asking how MAGA would react if Biden's FBI had shot a Trump supporter under similar circumstances
- Her statement marks latest break from Trump following recent clashes over Epstein files and foreign policy
WASHINGTON (TDR) — Marjorie Taylor Greene has issued a stark warning to MAGA supporters and Americans across the political spectrum to "take off their political blinders" over the fatal shooting of protester Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, cautioning that partisan divisions are being exploited to "incite civil war."
The former Georgia congresswoman, who recently left Congress after a highly public falling out with President Donald Trump, broke with administration orthodoxy Sunday to defend Pretti's constitutional rights. Her statement came one day after Border Patrol agents shot and killed the 37-year-old ICU nurse and registered gun owner during an immigration enforcement operation.
"I unapologetically believe in border security and deporting criminal illegal aliens and I support law enforcement," Greene wrote on X. "However, I also unapologetically support the 2nd amendment. Legally carrying a firearm is not the same as brandishing a firearm."
Challenging the Administration Narrative
Greene's comments directly contradict the Department of Homeland Security's official account, which characterized Pretti as attempting to "assassinate" agents in an act of "domestic terrorism." Multiple video angles show Pretti was filming officers with his phone, not brandishing his weapon, when he was pepper-sprayed, wrestled to the ground, and shot approximately ten times.
The Georgia Republican emphasized that peaceful protest and video documentation are constitutionally protected activities, regardless of political affiliation.
"There is nothing wrong with legally peacefully protesting and videoing," Greene stated, adding that Americans must look beyond partisan loyalties to recognize government overreach.
The January 6 Parallel
Perhaps most striking was Greene's attempt to bridge the political divide by asking supporters to consider how they would react if the circumstances involved Trump supporters rather than immigration protesters.

She referenced the aggressive federal response to January 6 participants, noting: "We lost our minds when we watched Biden's FBI track down and aggressively carry out home invasions and arrest… peaceful J6'ers who walked in the Capitol through open doors."
"Imaging [sic] if one of our MAGA independent journalists or even just a MAGA supporter stood in the street outside a J6'ers house while Biden's FBI carried out a law enforcement operation, home invasion, and arrest. Then Biden's FBI goes to the MAGA guy videoing it all and shoves a woman with him to the ground and sprays them with bear spray then throws the MAGA guy to the ground as MAGA guy was trying to help the woman off the ground. Then Biden's FBI beats MAGA guy on the ground, disarms MAGA guy, and then shoots him dead. What would have been our reaction?"
Greene concluded with a unifying message that has resonated across political lines: "Both sides need to take off their political blinders. You are all being incited into civil war, yet none of it solves any of the real problems that we all face, and tragically people are dying."
Pattern of Breaking With Trump
Greene's statement represents her latest departure from MAGA orthodoxy. Once considered a firebrand Trump loyalist, she has publicly broken with the president in recent months over multiple issues, including demands for transparency regarding the Jeffrey Epstein files and disagreements on foreign policy. She stood down from Congress earlier this month, freeing her to speak more candidly without institutional constraints.
Her willingness to challenge the administration's narrative on Pretti's death has drawn attention from across the political spectrum. Former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama issued a rare joint statement Sunday calling the killing a "wake-up call to every American, regardless of party," urging the administration to "reconsider their approach."
Local Law Enforcement Frustration
Greene's concerns echo those of Minneapolis officials who have expressed frustration with federal operations in their city. Police Chief Brian O'Hara told CBS's Face the Nation that his department has "had enough" of managing chaos caused by federal immigration operations.
The chief revealed that even basic information about officer-involved shootings has been withheld from local authorities. "Even when our officers initially responded to the scene, our watch commander was not given even the most basic information that is typical in a law enforcement-involved shooting," O'Hara said.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was initially blocked from the shooting scene by federal officials, though they were later allowed access to canvas for witnesses.
Second Fatal Shooting in Three Weeks
Pretti's death marks the second fatal shooting by federal agents in Minneapolis in less than three weeks. On January 7, 37-year-old mother Renee Good was killed by an ICE agent during an enforcement operation. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide.

Republican Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, typically a Trump supporter, called for a full investigation, stating that the "credibility of ICE and DHS are at stake." Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina also demanded a "thorough and impartial investigation."
Despite bipartisan concern, the White House has maintained its aggressive stance. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that "President Trump will never back down on his core promise to deport violent illegal criminals," dismissing calls to halt operations.
***Does Marjorie Taylor Greene's break with the Trump administration over Alex Pretti's death signal a broader fracturing of MAGA unity, or will her warning about "civil war" incitement be dismissed by the movement she once led?***
