• President Trump is set to attend the Daytona 500, becoming the third sitting president to visit NASCAR’s iconic race.
  • This marks his second Daytona visit in office, following his 2020 appearance where he led the lineup in “The Beast.”
  • NASCAR fans have mixed reactions, with some excited and others expressing concerns over race-day superstitions.

President Donald Trump is set to attend the Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 16, according to reports, marking another high-profile sporting event appearance. This visit would make Trump the third sitting president to attend NASCAR’s iconic kickoff race, and it comes just one week after he made history as the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl.

Trump’s Growing Presence at Major Sporting Events

On Feb. 9, Trump attended the Super Bowl in New Orleans, where he walked the Superdome sidelines, greeted players, and shook hands before the game. Sitting alongside New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson, he left at halftime with the Philadelphia Eagles leading 24-0. If he visits the Daytona 500 this Sunday, it will be his second time at the event while in office. During his first visit in 2020, Trump delivered the famous command, “Gentlemen, start your engines!” and led the 40-car lineup in the presidential limousine, “The Beast.” Fans can expect a similar spectacle this year.

Presidential Ties to Daytona

Trump is not the only president with connections to Daytona. George W. Bush attended in 2004, and other leaders, including Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, have also visited the speedway. These visits highlight the strong ties between NASCAR and American political history, with the Daytona 500 often seen as a showcase of patriotism and tradition.

Why Trump Loves NASCAR

In a previous Fox Sports interview, Trump expressed his admiration for the sport, praising its courage, speed, and advanced technology. “It takes great courage,” Trump said. “You look at what’s happened over the last 10 years with the cars. I love to see it; I love to watch it.”

While many race fans welcome Trump’s attendance, some express concern over superstitions tied to his visits. A few notable accidents have occurred during races after Trump’s appearances, sparking unease among some spectators about potential disruptions.
