- Sean "Diddy" Combs’ attorney Anthony Ricco filed to withdraw from his defense, citing ethical standards while adhering to attorney-client privilege.
- Combs faces serious allegations, including racketeering and sex trafficking, with a potential life sentence if convicted.
- The music mogul counters with a $100M defamation lawsuit against NBC for reputational harm caused by their documentary.
Anthony Ricco, one of six attorneys defending Sean "Diddy" Combs in his sex-trafficking case, filed a motion to withdraw as counsel on Thursday. Ricco cited ethical standards, stating he “respectfully but regrettably” could no longer represent Combs. While Ricco refrained from disclosing the exact reasons due to "attorney-client privilege," he ensured the court that his departure would not delay the trial scheduled for May 5.
Legal Justifications for Withdrawal
Ricco explained his decision in court documents, emphasizing that the move aligned with ABA Standards for Criminal Justice. He acknowledged the Local Rule requirement to provide detailed reasons for withdrawal but argued that attorney-client privilege prevented full disclosure. His brief application claimed “sufficient reasons” supported his request. Ricco also informed Combs’ lead lawyer, Mark Agnifilio, before formally submitting the motion. However, the judge must still approve the request, leaving Ricco on the case until further notice.

Combs Faces Serious Allegations
The once-revered founder of Bad Boy Records has been in a New York City jail since September 2024, following a series of damning accusations. Legal troubles began in November 2023 when Combs’ ex-girlfriend Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura accused him of rape and abuse during their decade-long relationship. Although the pair settled the lawsuit within 24 hours, other accusers soon came forward with similar claims.
In March 2024, Homeland Security raided Combs’ homes, uncovering explosive evidence. By September, authorities had charged him with racketeering, sex trafficking by force, and transportation for prostitution. Combs, 55, pleaded not guilty but faces life in prison if convicted.

Dark Allegations from ‘Freak Off’ Parties
Investigators allege that Combs organized wild “freak off” parties, where women were coerced into sexual acts. Reports suggest walls and ceilings were lined with mirrors to enhance the voyeuristic experience. Combs denies these claims, insisting all accusations are baseless.
Combs Fights Back with Defamation Lawsuit
Meanwhile, Combs is playing offense with a defamation lawsuit against NBCUniversal. He seeks $100 million for what he calls “severe reputational and economic harm” caused by their documentary, “Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy.” The production allegedly likens him to notorious figures like Jeffrey Epstein and portrays him as “an embodiment of Lucifer.” Combs claims he warned NBC against airing the “false and debunked” rumors a month before its January 2024 release.
As the May trial draws closer, Combs’ legal battles continue to dominate headlines. With five attorneys still on his defense team, the trial is expected to proceed as scheduled.
