A former substitute teacher for Martinsville Schools, Brittany Fortinberry, now faces even more criminal charges related to alleged sexual abuse involving multiple students. According to court documents, the 31-year-old is charged with 10 counts of child molestation, eight counts of disseminating harmful material to minors, five counts of contributing to the delinquency of minors, and one count of sexual misconduct with a minor. These recent charges follow initial accusations of sexual misconduct, with investigations revealing deeper misconduct.
Ongoing Allegations Spark New Victim Reports
New allegations against Fortinberry surfaced after the investigation by the Department of Child Services launched. More alleged victims have come forward with disturbing testimonies, describing inappropriate behavior and gifts. For example, a woman who had been friends with Fortinberry since 2022 reported noticing unusual behavior when Fortinberry interacted with her child. Court records state the teacher allegedly sent the minor explicit content via Snapchat, including videos of herself engaging in sexual acts.

The accusations don’t stop there. One minor revealed that Fortinberry allegedly provided them with vapes, “shrooms,” and marijuana, even forcing alcohol consumption. The victim reported feeling disoriented and barely remembering events after these interactions.
Explicit Material and Further Accounts Emerge
Detectives also interviewed other victims, including one who claimed Fortinberry sent him sexually explicit videos and images. Another victim, who met her as a 7th grader, recounted receiving illicit substances such as THC cartridges and being forced to watch her engage in sexual activity with others. These chilling accounts paint a picture of systematic manipulation involving multiple victims.

In one particularly alarming incident, Fortinberry allegedly hosted a group of teens at her home, coercing them into sexual acts while one was reportedly made to wear a mask from the horror movie “Scream.” She reportedly threatened suicide if her crimes were exposed and even offered money for explicit photos from students.
Family Members and Witnesses Speak Out
Family members of victims have also provided statements to investigators. One parent told police that Fortinberry’s husband was aware of her actions and allegedly threatened to harm one of the victims if the accusations came to light. Another victim’s grandmother claimed that Fortinberry initiated contact with her grandson via Snapchat, sending lewd images and eventually molesting him. This victim also revealed that at least five to ten other teens may have been targeted.
Evidence Found During Search Warrant
During a search of Fortinberry’s home, police discovered items matching victim descriptions, including a stripper pole and sex toys. These findings further corroborate the explicit material she allegedly sent to students through platforms like Instagram and Snapchat. Investigators are actively building the case as more evidence and testimonies come to light.
What’s Next in the Legal Process?
Court records indicate that Fortinberry will appear before Morgan Superior Court 3 for a jury trial scheduled on June 25. If convicted, the severity of the charges could lead to significant legal repercussions. As the investigation continues, more individuals may come forward with additional allegations, adding to the scope of the case.
