SJ Incorporation, a global wellness solutions company, has announced plans to establish a manufacturing facility in Cascade, Maryland, as part of an effort to expand its operations in the United States. The facility, located at the redeveloped site of Fort Ritchie, is expected to create 300 new jobs over the next four years. Maryland Governor Wes Moore made the announcement on May 22, emphasizing the project’s role in boosting economic growth and revitalizing Western Maryland.

New Facility Aims to Expand Access to Medical Products

SJ Incorporation’s new facility will span 35,000 square feet and focus on manufacturing medicine and medical device components. The company, which currently has offices in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, aims to make healthcare more accessible by producing affordable medical products for underserved markets. Construction is scheduled to begin this year.

Governor Moore highlighted the importance of this investment, stating, “Today’s announcement brings manufacturing jobs and greater opportunity to Western Maryland. Our state is a global destination for businesses looking to grow and expand.” The facility will anchor redevelopment efforts at Fort Ritchie, a former military installation being transformed into a hub for residential, commercial, and recreational opportunities.

The project is backed by financial incentives from both state and local governments. According to the Maryland Department of Commerce, the state is working to approve a $1 million conditional loan through its Advantage Maryland program. Additionally, Washington County is contributing a $100,000 conditional loan to assist with SJ Incorporation’s relocation. The company will also benefit from the Job Creation Tax Credit and the One Maryland Tax Credit.

Maryland Commerce Secretary Harry Coker, Jr. praised the initiative, noting that the state’s leadership in life sciences and manufacturing makes it an ideal environment for companies like SJ Incorporation. “This investment will benefit the company, create good jobs for Washington County, and make Maryland’s economy stronger and more competitive,” he said.

Revitalizing Fort Ritchie

Fort Ritchie, located in the mountainous region of Western Maryland, was previously a U.S. Army base before its closure in 1998. The site has since undergone redevelopment, with efforts focused on transforming it into a mixed-use community. SJ Incorporation represents the largest commercial investment in the area to date.

Property developer John Krumpotich, who is leading the redevelopment of Fort Ritchie, welcomed the project. “SJ Incorporation’s presence will have a significant impact, not only on our local mountain community but all of Western Maryland. They will bring hundreds of good-paying jobs and contribute to the rejuvenation of the area,” he said.
