A Virginia woman was shot after driving toward the CIA headquarters in Langley while under the influence of alcohol, authorities said. Monia Spadaro, who had a prior DUI conviction, was stopped early Thursday morning after allegedly ignoring officers’ commands and driving erratically near the secure facility.

Erratic Driving Sparks Incident

The incident occurred around 3:40 a.m. on May 22, when Spadaro, 39, drove her gray Toyota Corolla into the outbound lane toward the CIA complex. According to an affidavit filed in the Eastern District of Virginia, a CIA police officer flashed their lights and activated their sirens after Spadaro crossed into the restricted zone.

Despite the warnings, Spadaro reportedly continued toward the security gate, swerving between lanes and ignoring commands to stop. As the car approached the gate at high speed, a CIA officer fired shots, striking Spadaro. Her car then collided with a barricade, bringing the pursuit to an end.

Alcohol and a History of DUI

Spadaro was detained at the scene, where officers confirmed her identity through vehicle registration. She was transported to Inova Fairfax Medical hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound.

Court documents allege that Spadaro had been drinking at Patsy’s, a bar in Vienna, Virginia, just 15 minutes from the CIA facility, before the incident. An officer accompanying her in the ambulance observed that her eyes were “glossy and bloodshot” and that there was a strong “odor of alcohol” on her.

This is not Spadaro’s first run-in with the law. Records show she was convicted of a DUI in Virginia in 2021.

Charges and Legal Implications

The affidavit states there is probable cause to believe that Spadaro operated a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drove in reckless disregard of law enforcement signals, endangering officers and others.

What’s Next

As the investigation continues, Spadaro may face severe legal consequences if convicted of these allegations. The incident highlights ongoing concerns over impaired driving and the risks it poses to public safety, especially near sensitive government installations.
