An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of another teen during a graduation party in Uhland, Texas. The shooting occurred early Sunday morning after a fight broke out between two girls at the event. Authorities say Chad Lee-Gardner is facing a murder charge in the death of 18-year-old Andrew Farias, a recent high school graduate.
Graduation Party Turns Deadly
The incident took place at a home on Rocky Road, about 25 miles south of Austin. The celebration, hosted by Farias’ aunt, began Saturday night with over 100 attendees. According to the Uhland Police Department, the altercation happened around 1 a.m. Sunday as the party was winding down and guests were being asked to leave.
Witnesses reported that a fight between two female guests escalated when Lee-Gardner intervened, striking Farias’ aunt in the head with a handgun. Farias attempted to step in, at which point Lee-Gardner allegedly fired two shots, striking him. Despite efforts to help, Farias was pronounced dead at the scene.
Suspect Arrested After Fleeing
Authorities say Lee-Gardner fled the scene before police arrived. Following a preliminary investigation, law enforcement, with the assistance of the Texas Rangers, located Lee-Gardner late Monday in Austin. He was arrested and booked into the Travis County Jail on a single charge of murder.

Family and Community React
The tragedy has left Farias’ family and loved ones devastated. His mother, Shannon Vasquez, released an emotional statement remembering her son as a positive, drama-free young man with big dreams.
“No words can describe this pain I’m feeling. I lost my best friend. Andrew was the light of the room, always smiling and avoiding confrontation. He told me, ‘Momma, I’m going to make you so proud,’” Vasquez wrote. She also highlighted his close bond with his siblings and stepfather, adding, “He had so many dreams ahead of him.”
Farias’ girlfriend, Mariana De Luna, shared that he died in her arms, saying, “I’m glad he knew I was with him till the very end.”
Evidence and Video Footage
Authorities noted that at least one partygoer recorded the incident, and the footage clearly shows Lee-Gardner as the shooter. Investigators are using this evidence as part of their case.
Court documents reveal that the fight began over tension between a group of girls, reportedly involving “making faces” and talking about others at the party. Witnesses said Farias tried to de-escalate the situation before being shot.
Community Support and Next Steps
A GoFundMe campaign for Farias’ memorial has raised nearly $20,000 of its $30,000 goal. The funds will help cover funeral expenses and support the grieving family.
