Antoine Massey, 32, remains on the run after a jailbreak involving ten inmates at the Orleans Parish Justice Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, earlier this month. According to the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, the inmates escaped on May 6, exploiting defective cell locks and exiting through a wall behind a toilet. Surveillance footage showed the group leaving via a supply dock, scaling a perimeter wall, and fleeing across an interstate.
Authorities have since captured eight of the escapees, but Antoine Massey and Derrick Groves, 27, are still at large. The escape has prompted sweeping audits of the facility and increased scrutiny of its leadership.
Captures and Arrests in the Manhunt
Within five days of the escape, five inmates were apprehended. On May 16, three more were captured:
- Kendell Myles, 20, found hiding under a car at the Hotel Monteleone garage.
- Robert Moody, 21, caught in Mid-City after a tip to Crime Stoppers.
- Dkenan Dennis, 24, arrested near Chef Menteur Highway and Dale Street.

By May 26, three additional fugitives were apprehended, including Jermaine Donald, 42, and Leo Tate, 31, who were captured in Texas after a high-speed police chase.
Alleged Abetment in the Escape
Authorities have charged at least 14 people with assisting the escapees. Among them is Massey’s sister, Daishanae Massey, who was arrested on May 27 for accessory after the fact and booked in the St. Tammany Parish Jail, according to Louisiana State Police. Daishanae allegedly helped hide her brother during the manhunt.
Massey’s girlfriend, a 21-year-old woman who is also his alleged domestic abuse victim, was also arrested. According to court documents cited by NOLA.com, she is accused of acting as a principal to aggravated escape and obstruction of justice. She is being held without bond at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.
Background of Antoine Massey
Massey was incarcerated on March 25 following charges of car theft and domestic abuse involving strangulation. The domestic assault reportedly left his girlfriend hospitalized, leading to his detention without bond.
Implications and Next Steps
The incident has sparked concerns over jail security and the effectiveness of inmate monitoring systems. The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office has launched an internal investigation, while the escape has drawn criticism from victims’ advocates and prosecutors, who fear further risks to public safety.
Authorities continue to search for Massey and Groves, urging the public to provide information through Crime Stoppers or local law enforcement.
