• The U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, ordered by President Trump, have escalated tensions between Iran, Israel, and the U.S., prompting condemnation from Iran and raising concerns about potential retaliation and regional instability. While the U.S. defends the strikes as necessary to counter Iran’s nuclear ambitions and regional threats, the action has sparked global debate over its broader implications for Middle Eastern stability and international law

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir-Saeid Iravani, on Sunday denounced U.S. airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites, calling the move a “blatant act of aggression” as tensions continue to escalate between Iran, Israel, and the United States. The strikes, ordered by President Trump on Saturday, mark a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between the nations, raising concerns about potential retaliation and broader regional instability.

At an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting called to address the crisis, Iravani condemned the U.S. involvement, stating that Iran reserves the right to respond proportionately under international law. “The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly warned the warmongering U.S. regime to refrain from stumbling into this quagmire,” he said. “The timing, nature, and scale of Iran’s proportionate response will be decided by its armed forces.”

The attacks come amid heightened regional tensions following accusations that Iran has advanced its nuclear weapons program and supported proxy forces across the Middle East. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised President Trump’s actions, calling them a demonstration of “peace through strength.” Netanyahu expressed gratitude in a video message posted on X, formerly Twitter, saying, “Tonight, President Trump and the United States acted with a lot of strength.”

U.S. Defends Strikes Amid Growing Criticism

Dorothy Shea, the interim U.S. ambassador to the U.N., defended the strikes during Sunday’s meeting. Shea criticized Iran for its alleged military ambitions and regional destabilization efforts, stating, “Iran has long obfuscated its nuclear weapons program and stonewalled good-faith efforts in recent negotiations. The time finally came for the United States, in defense of its ally and our own citizens, to act decisively.”

Shea also highlighted Iran’s history of supporting proxy forces and accused the nation of being responsible for “misery and countless deaths across the Middle East,” including attacks on U.S. personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Regional and Global Implications

The latest developments add new complexity to an already volatile situation in the Middle East. Iran’s leadership has described the strikes as a U.S.-Israeli effort to undermine its sovereignty and force regime change. Iravani accused Netanyahu of “hijacking U.S. foreign policy” and dragging the country into “another costly, baseless war.”

Experts warn that escalating tensions could have far-reaching consequences, not only for Middle Eastern stability but also for global energy markets and U.S. foreign policy credibility. The strikes have also prompted mixed reactions on the domestic front, with critics questioning the long-term strategy and potential fallout from further military engagement.

A Call for Dialogue

As the situation unfolds, the global community continues to grapple with the potential for further conflict. The U.N. meeting highlighted divisions among nations, with some calling for de-escalation and diplomatic solutions. The crisis raises broader questions about the role of international law and the limits of military action in resolving global disputes.
