• The House Oversight Committee, led by Rep. James Comer, is investigating former President Joe Biden's health transparency and potential misuse of executive powers, including deposing his former physician Kevin O'Connor on July 9. The inquiry examines claims of Biden's fitness for office and alleged undue influence by unelected advisors, sparking debates on transparency and accountability in government.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House Oversight Committee will depose Kevin O'Connor, former President Joe Biden's personal physician, on July 9 as part of an investigation into the transparency of Biden’s health reports and potential misuse of executive powers. The inquiry, led by Chair Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., aims to address public concerns about Biden’s fitness for office and alleged unauthorized executive actions.

“The American people deserve full transparency,” Comer said, emphasizing the importance of accountability in government. “The cover-up of former President Biden's mental decline is one of the greatest scandals in our nation’s history.”

The investigation stems from claims detailed in the book Original Sin, which argues that Biden’s physical and mental health has compromised his leadership and alleges that unelected advisors may be exerting undue influence over the administration. The book claims five individuals were effectively running the administration, with Biden functioning as a “senior member of the board.”

Oversight Committee Broadens the Investigation

In addition to O’Connor’s deposition, Comer has issued subpoenas to several former senior White House officials, including Michael Donilon, Anita Dunn, Ronald Klain, Bruce Reed, and Steve Ricchetti. The committee is investigating whether these officials influenced health disclosures or were involved in unauthorized policy decisions.

A letter from Comer to O’Connor expressed specific concerns. “The Committee seeks information to ensure accurate information was provided to the American people, and your health reports were not subject to any improper influence,” the letter stated.

Biden’s physician has publicly maintained that the former president is physically capable of executing his duties. “Former President Biden is a healthy, active, robust 81-year-old male, who remains fit to successfully execute the duties of the presidency,” O’Connor said in a prior health assessment.

Implications for Public Trust

The investigation highlights ongoing concerns about transparency in leadership, particularly as Biden prepares for a re-election campaign. According to Pew Research, 57% of Americans believe transparency in government is crucial to maintaining trust in federal institutions. Critics of the investigation argue it is politically motivated, while proponents see it as a necessary step toward accountability.

As the July 9 deposition approaches, the Oversight Committee’s findings could have broader implications for how health disclosures are handled for public officials. What comes next will likely shape debates on transparency and executive accountability.
