During an interview with Sky News Arabia, made available on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s online platform, Mr. Lavrov elucidated that President Putin is known for his wit, often incorporating humor into his declarations and dialogues. “President Putin possesses an admirable sense of humor,”

Mr. Lavrov remarked. He elaborated on Russia’s consistent stance towards American electoral processes, attributing no significant change in perspective to the prevailing or preceding U.S. elections due to what he termed as the influence of the “notorious deep state.”

The White House promptly dismissed any implications of support from the Russian leader following Mr. Putin’s initial statements, advising him to refrain from interfering in America’s electoral matters.

Previously, Mr. Putin had expressed a preference for President Joe Biden over former President Donald Trump, describing Biden as “predictable.” The issue of Mr. Putin and Russia’s ongoing conflict with Ukraine became a pivotal topic during a recent debate between Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump, triggering a request from Mr. Putin’s spokesperson for the candidates to “leave our president alone.”

During this heated exchange, Mr. Trump pledged to conclude the war with Ukraine before assuming office should he secure victory in the election—a statement that led Ms. Harris to criticize him for seemingly capitulating to Mr. Putin’s wishes and suggesting that the Russian leader would dominate him easily.

Amidst these political exchanges and allegations, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is preparing for upcoming discussions with both Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris next week where he plans to present a “victory plan” aimed at overcoming Russia after almost three years of conflict. In addition to these meetings, President Zelenskyy has expressed interest in meeting with Mr.Trump who has indicated openness to such an engagement stating he would “probably” meet with the Ukrainian president.
