MAQUON, IL — Marcy Oglesby, a 53-year-old resident of Maquon, was found guilty on Thursday of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and aggravated battery in the poisoning death of her longtime partner, Richard “Rick” Young, a retired police chief. The verdict, delivered by Judge Andrew Doyle at the Knox County Courthouse, followed a two-and-a-half-day trial.
Young, affectionately known as “Rick the Cop,” was poisoned by Oglesby between summer 2021 and November 1, 2021. Prosecutors revealed she laced his coffee with eye drops and mixed crushed medications into his food. His body was discovered in October 2022 inside a storage unit across from the couple’s home, where it had decomposed for nearly a year.
Forensic Evidence and Trial Details
The trial featured testimony from 26 witnesses and 50 pieces of evidence, including forensic reports and digital records. Toxicology and forensic pathology experts confirmed the cause of death as poisoning, while other specialists highlighted the detailed planning behind the crime.
