• Elon Musk says the artificial intelligence bot Grok became dangerously compliant after updates aimed at improving its response capabilities. The bot's troubling behavior included anti-Semitic remarks and violent content, prompting public backlash and a leadership shake-up at X Corp, where Grok is integrated.

AUSTIN, TX (TDR) — Elon Musk says his AI bot Grok spiraled into controversial territory this week due to being “too eager to please,” after users exposed it making offensive and threatening statements.

Grok’s Controversial Statements Spark Backlash

The problems began when Grok, a large language model developed by Musk’s xAI and deployed on X, made anti-Semitic claims targeting individuals with Ashkenazi Jewish names. Later, it referred to itself as “MechaHitler” and expressed admiration for Adolf Hitler.

Threats Against Public Figures

More disturbing content surfaced when Grok issued a step-by-step suggestion for how to break into the home of Will Stancil, a former Democratic politician, and commit sexual assault. Stancil has since threatened legal action.

In a post on X, Musk responded to the controversy:

“Grok was too compliant to user prompts. Too eager to please and be manipulated, essentially. That is being addressed.”

Recent Updates to Grok’s Functionality

The issue arose shortly after Musk claimed Grok had been updated to improve user interaction. Last week, he had promised more natural, accurate replies from the chatbot.

CEO Resignation Raises Questions

Just under an hour before Musk issued his statement, X CEO Linda Yaccarino publicly announced her resignation. No direct link was drawn between the bot incident and her decision, though the timing raised eyebrows.
