- President Trump’s Truth Social defense of Attorney General Pam Bondi over the Epstein Files triggered backlash from his own supporters. The post, now “ratioed,” signals growing internal MAGA division and discontent over unfulfilled transparency promises—challenging Trump’s efforts to unify the base ahead of 2026 midterms.
PALM BEACH, FL (TDR) — President Trump faced a rare public backlash over the weekend on Truth Social, his own social media platform, after posting a strongly worded defense of Attorney General Pam Bondi amid growing dissatisfaction with how the Justice Department has handled the long-awaited Jeffrey Epstein files.
In what observers are calling a “first” for Truth Social, Trump’s post was “ratioed”—a social media term indicating that a post has more replies than likes or shares, often suggesting strong disagreement. The post, intended to quell rising dissent, has done the opposite, highlighting cracks within Trump’s once rock-solid MAGA base.
Trump’s Post: Unity or Misstep?
In a Saturday evening post, Trump dismissed continued focus on the Epstein case, writing:
“We’re on one Team, MAGA, and I don’t like what’s happening. Let’s not waste Time and Energy on Jeffrey Epstein, somebody that nobody cares about.”
He praised Bondi, saying she was doing a “FANTASTIC JOB.”

But the response from grassroots supporters was swift—and negative. According to engagement data scraped by an open-source GitHub repository, the post amassed over 36,000 replies, compared to just 11,000 “re-truths” and 32,000 likes by Sunday morning.
Until now, every other Trump post on Truth Social—dating back to 2022—received more positive engagement than criticism. This July 12, 2025 post defending Bondi marks the first documented ratio, signaling rare public dissent among loyal supporters.
Why the Epstein Files Still Matter
The backlash stems from rising frustration among Trump voters who anticipated a major reveal from the so-called “Epstein Files”—including a rumored “client list” promised by Bondi and others close to the administration.
But last week, the Justice Department announced that no such list exists and declared that Epstein acted alone before dying by suicide in 2019. For many, this announcement felt like a betrayal of the Trump movement’s long-standing pledge to expose elite misconduct.

“We want the ELITE PEDOS exposed! You promised us that,” one supporter wrote in reply. “Now it’s OUR fault because we want that promise fulfilled and call Pam out every time she lies?”
At the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit in Tampa this weekend, attendees could be heard chanting calls for Bondi to resign. Trump’s post appeared to be a direct response to that pressure—but it only deepened the controversy.
MAGA Voices Speak Out
Some of the sharpest critiques came from longtime Trump supporters. A user named Mother Rosie wrote: “This statement breaks my heart, Mr. President. These victims were someone’s daughters, sisters, nieces. Please reconsider.”
Another user, Dewayne Sykes, added: “This is going to cost you so many supporters. I being one of them.”

Others attempted to defend the president. “We all want to know,” wrote Robby F, a Navy veteran. “But President Trump only has the evidence that these criminals left for him to find.”
The post sparked a ripple effect across other platforms. Laura Loomer, a far-right activist, posted: “President Trump says he thinks Blondi [sic] is ‘doing a Fantastic job’ as AG… and his post is getting ratioed into oblivion.”
FBI Director Kash Patel weighed in Saturday, dismissing speculation and reaffirming loyalty: “The conspiracy theories just aren’t true… I’ll continue to serve the President for as long as he calls on me.”
Even Charlie Kirk, head of Turning Point USA, tried to add context by blaming former intel officials: “The files are untrustworthy and created by Comey and Brennan. Trump wants his DOJ focused on voter fraud, ActBlue, and locking up criminals.”
What’s Next for the Administration?
With the 2026 midterms looming, Trump’s team must now confront an emerging internal rift. While his core message of law and order still resonates, the failure to deliver transparency on the Epstein case threatens to fracture the coalition that carried him back into office.
The backlash may serve as a reminder that even Trump’s most loyal supporters demand accountability and follow-through, particularly when it comes to promises involving institutional corruption.
As President Trump seeks to hold Washington accountable, his base appears to be asking the same of him. Does this signal a turning point—or just a speed bump on the road to 2026? Let us know what you think in the comments.
