- Hunter Biden says Democrats lost the 2024 election to President Trump due to disloyalty to President Biden. In a forthcoming podcast interview, he blames the party’s internal divisions and failure to unite behind an incumbent with a strong record. His comments come as Democrats continue to analyze their defeat and debate future strategy.
WASHINGTON, DC (TDR) — Hunter Biden has attributed the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential election loss to what he calls a lack of loyalty toward his father, President Biden, arguing that internal divisions undermined their advantage and led to Donald Trump’s return to the White House.
In an excerpt from an upcoming interview on former Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison’s new podcast At Our Table, Hunter Biden said the party failed to stand behind a successful administration during a critical election year.
"We lost the election because we did not remain loyal to the leader of the party. That’s my position," Hunter Biden said.
"We had the advantage of incumbency. We had advantage of an incredibly successful administration, and the Democratic Party literally melted down."
Divisions Within the Party
The full interview, part of a broader conversation on party unity and strategy, is expected to be released in the coming weeks. Harrison’s podcast debuts Thursday with an episode featuring Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Hunter Biden’s remarks come at a time when Democratic leaders are grappling with the outcome of the 2024 election and the path forward in the face of a strengthened Republican presence in Washington.
“You know what, we are going to fight amongst ourselves for the next three years until there’s a nominee. And then with the nominee, we better as hell get behind that nominee,” Hunter Biden added in the clip.
His comments appear to reflect frustration within parts of the Democratic base, particularly among those who supported President Biden’s re-election bid and felt the party fractured during the campaign.
Fallout From the Election and Pardon
Weeks after losing the election, President Biden issued a controversial pardon for his son, clearing him of several federal charges, including one case related to drug use and a firearm and another involving unpaid taxes. At the time, he defended the decision by stating:
“Hunter was singled out only because he is my son.”
The move drew mixed reactions from both parties. Republicans accused the former president of abusing executive clemency, while Democrats appeared divided on whether the pardon helped or hindered their broader electoral messaging.

The Bidens have remained in the political spotlight since President Trump’s inauguration, with recent books and investigative reports focusing on the 2024 race and concerns about President Biden’s fitness for office prior to his departure.
Broader Democratic Frustrations
In the aftermath of the election, prominent Democrats such as Rep. Nancy Pelosi expressed openness to a different nominee, sparking internal tension within the Biden family. Reports indicated that former First Lady Jill Biden was frustrated by calls for the president to step aside during the primaries.
President Biden’s recent interview with The New York Times, in which he defended using an autopen to sign pardons, has also stirred debate. While he attempted to counter Republican criticism, some Democrats worry it distracts from their effort to refocus the public on Trump’s policy agenda — particularly his controversial tax bill and ongoing friction over the Jeffrey Epstein case.
“Now is the time to rebuild, not to relive past fractures,” one Democratic strategist told TDR.
