• Two California medical workers face federal charges after allegedly assaulting and obstructing ICE agents during a July enforcement operation. DHS officials say the incident was misrepresented in media reports and reassert the right of federal officers to carry out lawful arrests—even near medical facilities.

LOS ANGELES, CA (TDR) — The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Thursday that two medical staffers at a Southern California surgical center are facing federal charges after allegedly assaulting and obstructing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during a targeted enforcement operation earlier this month.

According to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, Jose de Jesus Ortega was arrested Thursday, while authorities are seeking the arrest of Danielle Nadine Davila. Both are charged with assaulting a federal officer and conspiring to prevent federal agents from executing their lawful duties through force and intimidation.

ICE Operation Misrepresented, DHS Says

The incident occurred on July 8, 2025, when ICE agents—wearing clearly marked bulletproof vests—attempted to detain two illegal aliens outside a vehicle near the Ontario Advanced Surgery Center in San Bernardino County.

One suspect, Denis Guillen-Solis, a Honduran national, reportedly fled on foot, prompting agents to pursue him near the facility. There, officials allege that Ortega and Davila assaulted the ICE officers, forcibly brought the fugitive and an agent into the facility, locked the doors, and falsely reported a “kidnapping” to local authorities.

“The media attempted to demonize ICE agents… but that is completely FALSE,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “These individuals are being charged for their crime. Anyone who assaults or obstructs law enforcement, including U.S. citizens, will face consequences.”

The suspects also allegedly blocked law enforcement vehicles to prevent the completion of the arrest.

DHS Encourages Public Cooperation

DHS reiterated that federal agents retain jurisdiction regardless of proximity to medical facilities and encouraged citizens to report any attempts to obstruct lawful operations.

Should aiding illegal aliens ever justify obstructing federal law enforcement in the line of duty?
