- The Biden-era pause on arms shipments is long gone. President Trump has greenlit over $652 million in new weapons packages for Ukraine—while simultaneously demanding peace with Russia within 50 days.
WASHINGTON, DC (TDR) — The State Department this week approved four potential arms deals for Ukraine totaling $652 million, signaling the Trump administration’s dual-track strategy: arming Kyiv while pressuring Moscow for peace.
According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the first two approved Foreign Military Sales were announced Wednesday. One includes $150 million worth of Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles and related maintenance equipment. The second, valued at $172 million, will deliver a Hawk Phase III surface-to-air missile system, along with support hardware and training packages.

On Thursday, the DSCA confirmed two more packages:
• A $150 million deal to refurbish M109 Self-Propelled Howitzers
• A $180 million agreement for the sustainment of U.S.-supplied air defense systems
“The Government of Ukraine has requested to buy equipment and services to support the training, sustainment, and refurbishment measures of existing US-origin air defense systems,” the DSCA stated.
Whether Kyiv will directly pay for the purchases or rely on American subsidies remains unclear. President Trump recently introduced a framework in which NATO allies would underwrite U.S. arms transfers to Ukraine, but no explicit connection to the DSCA announcements has yet been confirmed.

The deals come just days after the Pentagon announced a pause in certain arms shipments to Ukraine. That decision, however, was quickly reversed following apparent confusion from the White House.
“We’re sending more. Not less,” President Trump reportedly said behind closed doors, according to aides.
At the same time, Trump issued a 50-day deadline for Russia to agree to a peace deal in Ukraine. If Moscow refuses, Trump has vowed to impose crippling tariffs on Russia and its trade allies. But the Kremlin appears unmoved.
“Russia will not be intimidated,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told state media. “We will fight until our strategic objectives are fulfilled.”
