• Secret Service agent Myosoty Perez, who helped plan the July 13 Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, has been suspended for 42 days—the harshest disciplinary action issued in the wake of the near-assassination attempt on President Donald Trump. Newly released records detail procedural failures and unauthorized contact with the press.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (TDR) — The Secret Service has imposed a 42-day suspension on Special Agent Myosoty Perez, a key planner of former President Donald Trump’s July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, citing failure to secure the rooftop where an armed assailant nearly assassinated the president.

According to documents released by the Senate Homeland Security Committee, Perez—then assigned to Trump’s protective detail—was the individual most severely disciplined among those responsible for operational planning in Butler. The disciplinary records cite her failure to secure the AGR building rooftop, which was later used by the shooter as a sniper perch.

Perez was further sanctioned for speaking with a journalist in the aftermath of the attack. On August 28, a reporter whose name remains redacted contacted Perez and, after identifying her as responsible for the Butler security failures, prompted her to respond.

“You did not have authorization from CMR to speak to the reporter regarding this matter,” the agency’s report states. “You again responded to her inquiry by discussing elements of the planning and coordination process.”

Initially suspended for three days without pay, Perez appealed the ruling and succeeded in having it reduced to one day. Nonetheless, her 42-day suspension for the full disciplinary action remains on record, primarily due to security failures.

Appeal records show that Perez claimed she answered the call believing it was from a colleague, as it originated from the 202-area code. She was, by her own account, caught off guard and reflexively began defending herself from the reporter’s pointed accusations.

“The reporter used dishonorable tactics and goaded you into providing information by making statements blaming you for the events of July 13, 2024,” the Secret Service’s findings acknowledged. “However…you did provide elements of the planning and coordination process.”

Perez’s attorney, Larry Berger, issued a statement to Susan Crabtree defending his client’s actions and placing some blame on higher-ups at Secret Service headquarters.

“SA Perez was part of a team of colleagues on site at Butler, who based on consensus plans…included the posting of local police officers at, on, around and in the AGR building,” Berger said. “These plans were reviewed and approved by colleagues on scene… and by the highest officials at headquarters who had responsibility for Butler.”

Berger further argued that Perez had been denied critical threat intelligence, asserting that headquarters failed to communicate vital information that would have led to increased rooftop security.

“Had her colleagues been apprised of this intelligence, extant agreements would have been modified,” the attorney stated.

Perez is no longer assigned to Trump’s protective detail. The Secret Service has declined to comment on whether any additional personnel will face consequences stemming from the Butler breach.
