OREM, Utah (TDR) — Authorities released photos Thursday of a person of interest in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during his speech at Utah Valley University. The suspect remains at large, and law enforcement is urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation deepens and the manhunt intensifies.

What the Photos and Description Show

The FBI distributed stills showing a college-aged male who appears to have blended in with the crowd before making his way to a rooftop from which the shot was fired. He is seen wearing a baseball cap, wraparound sunglasses, and an American-flag shirt.

Investigators stressed that while the face is partially obscured, the clothing, gait, and video context provide crucial identifiers. Law enforcement is appealing to the public for recognition assistance, hoping community tips will help close the gap.

Weapon and Other Evidence Recovered

The FBI also confirmed recovery of the high-powered bolt-action rifle believed to be the murder weapon. It was found discarded in a wooded area near campus. Forensic teams collected footwear impressions, palm and forearm prints and have been reviewing crowdsourced video. Authorities say the forensic trail is strong, making it a matter of time before the suspect is identified.

Two Detained, Then Released

In the first chaotic hours after the assassination, two people were detained but later released. Investigators have since clarified that neither person matched the subject in the FBI’s released photos.

Governor Spencer Cox and FBI Director Kash Patel urged residents to submit doorbell and dashcam footage that could provide additional angles of the suspect’s escape route. Their call reflects a recognition that public cooperation will be decisive in advancing the case.

Manhunt Intensifies Around Orem

The assassination occurred on September 10, 2025, during Kirk’s “American Comeback Tour.” Witnesses said he was answering questions from students when a single shot rang out from roughly 200 yards away. The shooter fled across rooftops and into surrounding neighborhoods, triggering an extensive search.

Utah Valley University has since closed its campus, and officials have increased security protocols amid fears of further violence. Federal, state, and local law enforcement continue to coordinate around the clock, reviewing surveillance and canvassing neighborhoods.

Unanswered Questions and Political Reverberations

Despite the new images, the suspect’s identity remains unknown. Law enforcement has not confirmed a motive, though Utah officials, including Cox, have already labeled the killing a political assassination. That framing has further polarized reactions nationwide.

The case has quickly become a flashpoint in America’s political climate, with supporters citing rising hostility toward conservatives, while others urge restraint until facts are confirmed. Meanwhile, security experts warn that the shooter’s tactical planning suggests experience, preparation, and possibly ties to extremist networks.

The FBI insists the investigation is advancing rapidly. Every lead — from the rifle to the images, prints, and public tips — brings them closer to an arrest. Yet until the suspect is in custody, Orem and the broader political landscape remain on edge.

Will these newly released photos finally lead to the capture of Charlie Kirk’s assassin, or will the manhunt stretch into weeks of uncertainty?
