- Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene slammed GOP leaders for backing Andrew Cuomo’s New York mayoral bid.
- The former governor is running as an independent after losing the Democratic primary.
- Cuomo trails progressive Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, with GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa in third.
ATLANTA, Ga. (TDR) — Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is taking aim at her own party, calling it “a disgrace” that Republican leaders are reportedly coalescing around Andrew Cuomo in the New York City mayoral race. Her criticism underscores widening fractures inside the GOP just two weeks before Election Day.
“You don’t beat the radical left by endorsing one of them,” Greene said during a social media livestream on Monday night. “Cuomo’s record speaks for itself — mandates, corruption, and scandal. And now my party wants to help him? Absolutely not.”
Party confusion ahead of Election Day
Cuomo, who governed New York from 2011 to 2021 before resigning amid sexual harassment allegations, is running as an independent candidate. He faces Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, a left-wing Democrat who defeated Cuomo in the Democratic primary, and Curtis Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels, representing Republicans.

Recent polling shows Mamdani with a strong lead, Cuomo trailing closely behind, and Sliwa a distant third — a position that has fueled frustration among Republican strategists who view Cuomo as their best chance to block a socialist-leaning candidate from City Hall.
“We can’t hand the city to the far-left,” one GOP consultant told Reuters. “If that means backing Cuomo as an independent, so be it.”
Greene defies GOP establishment
Greene, however, says that strategy amounts to “betrayal” of conservative values. She accused Republican leadership of “selling out New York conservatives” for political expediency.
Her comments came as several influential figures — including Sen. Susan Collins and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick — have praised Cuomo’s “executive experience” and hinted that he could bring “stability” back to city government after years of turmoil.

Greene fired back on X, formerly Twitter, calling it “the swamp at work again” and warning that Cuomo’s rise could alienate Trump-aligned voters.
“If Republicans can’t stand for anything, they’ll fall for anyone,” Greene wrote.
Cuomo’s comeback gamble
Cuomo’s campaign has positioned him as a centrist alternative to Mamdani’s progressive platform, focusing on public safety, housing, and economic growth. His team says the former governor’s experience uniquely qualifies him to “restore order” in New York — a message resonating with moderate Democrats and independents, but not conservatives.
Political analysts say Greene’s attack could energize right-wing voters but further fracture a Republican base already uncertain about how to approach a race dominated by two nontraditional figures.
With early voting set to begin next week, the GOP must decide whether to unite behind Cuomo or risk ceding City Hall to Mamdani — a choice that could reveal how much influence the Trump wing still holds over urban politics.
Will Greene’s defiance expose deeper cracks in the GOP’s identity — or force Republicans to rethink their alliances before Election Day?

Good for her! Let the communist win and the rest of the country will see that socialism and communism never worked in any country. It could be a very good wakeup call for the U.S.
