• Fox News host Mark Levin harshly criticized Steve Bannon for suggesting President Trump could serve a third term in 2028.
  • The 22nd Amendment explicitly limits presidents to two full terms, making Bannon’s claims constitutionally impossible.
  • Trump himself acknowledged Tuesday that he’s “not allowed to run” for a third term, contradicting Bannon’s assertions.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (TDR) — Fox News host Mark Levin unleashed a scathing attack Wednesday on Steve Bannon for perpetuating claims that President Donald Trump could serve a third term despite constitutional limitations. The heated exchange highlights growing tensions within conservative media circles over Bannon’s repeated statements about Trump’s political future and constitutional boundaries.

Constitutional reality vs. political fantasy

The 22nd Amendment to the Constitution clearly limits presidents to two full terms in office. Despite this unambiguous restriction, Bannon told The Economist last week that “there’s a plan” allowing Trump to run again in 2028. “He’s going to get a third term. So Trump ’28, Trump is going to be president in ’28, and people just ought to get accommodated with that,” Bannon said during the interview.

While Trump has occasionally joked about the idea and reportedly keeps “Trump 2028” hats in the Oval Office, the president acknowledged Tuesday aboard Air Force One, “I’m not allowed to run.” The statement directly contradicted Bannon‘s ongoing assertions about a third-term strategy.

Levin took to X Wednesday morning with a pointed criticism of Bannon, referring to him as “Third Reich Bannon” and highlighting his February guilty plea on charges of defrauding donors who contributed to a private border wall project.

I’ve explained repeatedly a president can serve two full terms under the Constitution. That’s it. President Trump has been trolling the media and Democrats. He clearly stated today on Air Force One that he’s limited by the Constitution.

Levin called Bannon a “confessed and convicted fraudster-felon” who “lies to his audience” while the “leftwing media promote him.” He described Bannon as a “self-serving impotent demagogue” whose false claims gain traction through media coverage. The harsh language reflected Levin‘s frustration with what he perceives as deliberate misinformation spreading through conservative circles.

Legal troubles and political fallout

Bannon received a presidential pardon from Trump in 2021 for federal charges related to the border wall fundraising scheme. However, he later faced state charges in New York on similar allegations. His guilty plea in February came after years of legal battles over the donor fraud case, which involved allegations that he misappropriated funds intended for border wall construction.

Roger Stone, another Trump confidant, also criticized Bannon on X two days earlier. “The 22nd amendment to US Constitution makes it impossible for Donald Trump to have another term,” Stone wrote, calling Bannon a “slovenly buffoon” and “Jeffrey Epstein associate” in an attempt to get clicks.

Conservative media divide deepens

The confrontation reveals deepening divisions among Trump allies over messaging and credibility as the 2028 election cycle approaches. While some Trump supporters view the third-term discussion as harmless trolling of political opponents, others like Levin and Stone see it as dangerous misinformation that undermines conservative credibility. The public dispute between prominent conservative voices raises questions about unity heading into future election cycles.

Is Bannon’s rhetoric damaging Trump’s political brand or simply generating media attention?
