• Trump accuses Senate leader Rodric Bray of being ‘either a bad guy, or a very stupid one’
  • Proposed map would eliminate both Democratic-held congressional districts in deeply red state
  • About a dozen lawmakers targeted by bomb threats and swatting incidents amid pressure campaign

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (TDR) — President Trump unleashed a blistering attack on Indiana Senate leader Rodric Bray late Wednesday, branding Republican holdouts as Trump Republican suckers for resisting a redistricting plan he insists would deliver two additional House seats to the GOP.

The proposed congressional map, crafted by the National Republican Redistricting Trust, has become a flashpoint in the party’s efforts to protect its razor-thin House majority ahead of next year’s midterm elections. The Indiana Senate is expected to take a final vote Thursday, though the outcome remains uncertain.

Trump Targets Bray in Social Media Tirade

In a lengthy Truth Social post, Trump singled out Rodric Bray (R-Martinsville) as “being the only person in the United States of America who is against Republicans picking up extra seats.”

The president claimed Bray was pressuring “soon to be very vulnerable friends” to block the legislation and accused him of partnering with Democrats. Trump called the opposing faction Trump Republican suckers who have become “the favorite Republicans of Hakeem Jeffries, Crazy Nancy Pelosi, and Cryin’ Chuck Schumer.”

“Anybody that votes against Redistricting, and the SUCCESS of the Republican Party in D.C., will be, I am sure, met with a MAGA Primary in the Spring.”

Trump also targeted former Governor Mitch Daniels, whom he called a “Failed Senate Candidate,” and referenced state Senator Cam Savage, dismissing him as “whoever that is.”

Map Would Eliminate Democratic Seats

The proposed boundaries would carve up districts currently held by Representatives Frank Mrvan (D) in northwest Indiana and André Carson (D) in Indianapolis. Carson, the state’s only Black member of Congress, would see his district split into four pieces extending into rural Republican strongholds.

The Indiana House passed the map 57-41 last week, with 12 Republicans joining Democrats in opposition. Governor Mike Braun supports the redistricting effort and called a special session to consider the legislation.

Republicans currently hold seven of Indiana’s nine congressional seats.

Lawmakers Face Threats and Intimidation

The redistricting battle has taken a darker turn as approximately a dozen state lawmakers have been targeted by bomb threats and swatting incidents. Senator Jean Leising, who opposes the new map, said her home received a pipe bomb threat she attributed to “D.C. political pundits for redistricting.”

Senator Greg Goode, whom Trump previously criticized, became the victim of a swatting attempt that sent law enforcement to his residence under false pretenses.

Turning Point Action pledged “congressional level spending” in state legislature races if the measure fails, while other pro-redistricting groups have announced seven-figure campaigns to recruit primary challengers against opposing lawmakers.

Uncertain Outcome Ahead

Bray initially announced last month that the Senate lacked sufficient votes and would not reconvene in December. That stance softened after intense White House pressure, including Vice President JD Vance visiting Indianapolis multiple times to lobby lawmakers.

Proponents need 25 votes in the 50-member chamber to pass the map, which would trigger a tiebreaking vote from Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith, a redistricting supporter. The filing deadline for congressional candidates arrives in early February.

Will Indiana become the lone Republican state to defy Trump’s redistricting demands, or will the pressure campaign prevail?
