- Congressmen say DOJ is flouting both spirit and letter of Epstein Files Transparency Act
- Lawmakers building coalition to fine Bondi daily for failing to release documents
- Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche tells critics to ‘bring it on’
WASHINGTON, DC (TDR) — Representatives Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Ro Khanna (D-CA) trashed Attorney General Pam Bondi and the way her office has handled the release of the Epstein files while appearing on CBS’s Face the Nation on Sunday.
Files Required by Law Fall Short
Their criticism comes after the files were required by law to be made public on Friday. Thousands of files were released, but not the full scope of documents. Massie and Khanna co-sponsored the Epstein Files Transparency Act that was signed by President Donald Trump and gave the Justice Department 30 days to produce the files.
Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan asked if the thousands of files the administration posted to the DOJ website was good enough for now.

“They have put out more than 13,000 files. This isn’t everything you asked for just yet, but would you acknowledge they are complying with the spirit, if not the intent, of your law?” Brennan asked.
“No, they’re flouting the spirit and the letter of the law. It’s very troubling the posture that they’ve taken. And I won’t be satisfied until the survivors are satisfied.”
Lawmakers Move Toward Inherent Contempt
Massie said the quickest way to get justice for victims is to bring inherent contempt against Pam Bondi. This approach does not require going through courts.
Khanna confirmed the bipartisan pair are building a coalition that would fine Bondi every day she fails to release the documents. Unlike impeachment, inherent contempt only requires House approval.

“One of the survivors said they released her name accidentally, but they still have not released the FBI file about the people who abused her at her request,” Khanna told Brennan. “There are rich and powerful people who either engaged in this abuse, covered it up or were on this island.”
DOJ Officials Dismiss Congressional Threats
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, appearing on NBC’s Meet the Press earlier Sunday, dismissed the threats of contempt.
“Bring it on,” Blanche said. “We are doing everything we’re supposed to be doing.”
Blanche claimed lawyers are working to ensure victims’ names are protected. He insisted more files would be released over coming weeks.
Key Documents Remain Hidden
Khanna expressed frustration that major documents remain concealed. He specifically cited a 60-count indictment that allegedly shows massive financial fraud and potential foreign government involvement.
“They put out these pictures for Bill Clinton. Fine, put it all out,” Khanna said. “But don’t distract from the fundamental issue, which is, who are these powerful people who visited rape island?”
The California Democrat noted that it defies common sense to believe only Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell were responsible given 1,200 victims. He accused the DOJ of selectively concealing information.
Photos Removed From DOJ Website
The controversy deepened after at least 16 files disappeared from the DOJ website since Friday’s release, including a photograph featuring President Trump. Senator Chuck Schumer called it potentially “one of the biggest coverups in American history.”
Survivors Express Disappointment
Massie said he would not be satisfied until survivors are satisfied. Victims’ lawyers told him at least 20 men accused of sex crimes known to the FBI have not appeared in released documents.
Khanna noted White House Chief of Staff Susan Wiles said Bondi whiffed on the files.
“This is the corrupt system, the Epstein class that people are sick of. And instead of holding them accountable, Pam Bondi is breaking the law.”
Will the bipartisan coalition successfully hold Attorney General Bondi in contempt, or will the DOJ continue releasing documents on its own timeline?
