• Ryan Garcia publicly declares he is “reclining” past support for President Trump following Epstein files release
  • Boxer says he cannot support anyone involved with “that island” and emphasizes children need protection
  • Garcia’s reversal comes after DOJ released 3.5 million pages mentioning Trump more than 1,000 times

LOS ANGELES, CA (TDR) — Professional boxer Ryan Garcia has publicly withdrawn his support for President Donald Trump following the Justice Department’s release of millions of pages from its Jeffrey Epstein investigation, marking a dramatic reversal for the controversial fighter who had been a vocal supporter of the president.

The 26-year-old boxing star announced his decision Friday on social media, using strong language to explain his changed position on Trump amid ongoing questions about the administration’s handling of the Epstein files and the president’s past association with the convicted sex offender.

Garcia Makes Public Declaration

Garcia, who has more than 1 million followers across social media platforms, did not mince words when announcing his decision to distance himself from Trump.

“This is my public declaration and announcement, I’m reclining my past support for Donald Trump,” Garcia wrote in a social media post that quickly went viral.

“Anyone that was involved in any thing to do with that island and what they were doing, I just can’t support in anyway.”

The boxer’s reference to “that island” appears to point to Jeffrey Epstein’s private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, known as Little Saint James, which has been linked to sex crimes committed by Epstein against minors.

“Children need to be protected, everyone knew better f— that. Justice for all,” Garcia added in his initial statement.

Garcia’s announcement came just days after the Department of Justice released more than 3 million additional pages from its investigation into Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, bringing the total disclosure to approximately 3.5 million pages. According to The New York Times, over 1,000 references to Trump appear throughout the files.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said Friday the release means the department has met its legal obligation under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which Congress passed in November 2025 requiring the DOJ to release all federal documents pertaining to Epstein.

Trump has acknowledged a years-long friendship with Epstein but has repeatedly denied any knowledge of the financier’s sex-trafficking operation. The president told reporters over the weekend that the new files “absolve” him, though critics have questioned the DOJ’s handling of the release and what documents may have been withheld.

Garcia Doubles Down On Position

When supporters pushed back on his announcement, suggesting Trump had been proven innocent, Garcia refused to back down from his decision.

“To everyone saying that trump is innocent and was proven false. I’m not taking chances, I only stand with the kingdom of God you guys can go to hell and back defending your political figures and parties,” Garcia wrote in a follow-up post.

“I stand with God and that’s it.”

The fighter emphasized his position stems from spiritual conviction rather than political calculation, framing his stance as a moral imperative focused on child protection.

“The devil has been going after babies and children since the beginning of time. It’s no different now,” Garcia wrote in another post.

“Like Jesus said there’s nothing new under the sun. Protect the children.”

Garcia’s Controversial Background

Garcia’s political reversal comes as he attempts to rebuild his boxing career following a tumultuous 2024 that saw him suspended for one year after testing positive for the banned substance Ostarine following his April 2024 victory over Devin Haney. The New York State Athletic Commission overturned that fight to a no-contest and forced Garcia to forfeit his entire purse.

The World Boxing Council expelled Garcia in July 2024 for using racial slurs against Black people and anti-Muslim remarks during a viral livestream, though the organization reinstated him in November 2025 after what it described as a “successful process.”

Garcia has also drawn criticism for spreading conspiracy theories and making offensive comments toward the LGBTQ community. He has been open about struggles with mental health, substance abuse, and the impact of his January 2024 divorce.

His suspension was lifted in April 2025, allowing him to return to competition. Garcia fought Rolando Romero in May 2025 and is currently planning his next bout.

Previous Trump Support

Garcia had been a vocal Trump supporter throughout much of 2024 and 2025, frequently posting about the president on social media and visiting Trump’s residence. He posted photos from a visit to Trump’s property in April 2024 with the caption “Trump is cool” and doubled down on his support even after Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts related to business records and hush money payments.

Garcia had previously criticized the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown in Los Angeles but stopped short of fully withdrawing his support until the Epstein files release pushed him over the edge.

Broader Political Context

Garcia’s withdrawal of support comes amid growing scrutiny of Trump’s past relationship with Epstein and questions about whether the Justice Department has released all relevant documents. Democratic lawmakers including Chuck Schumer and Ro Khanna have questioned why the DOJ identified over 6 million potentially responsive pages but released only about 3.5 million after review and redactions.

The controversy has also affected Trump in other ways, with Grammy host Trevor Noah making jokes about Trump and Epstein at Sunday’s awards ceremony, prompting the president to threaten legal action.

Will Ryan Garcia’s public withdrawal of Trump support influence other celebrity supporters to reconsider their positions, or does the boxer’s controversial past undermine his message about protecting children?
