E2293: Is Politics Making You Sick? What the Studies Really Show 10/14

Politics has become a health problem for millions of Americans. Sleep, mood, family, even the heart. Three weeks before the midterms, what does the research actually say, and where does it stop?

On this episode of The Dupree Report, Wayne checks each claim against the evidence. According to the American Psychological Association, 69% of adults called the 2024 presidential election a significant source of stress, up from 52% in 2016. According to a study in Politics and the Life Sciences, an estimated 12.5% of adults showed election-related PTSD-like symptoms after 2020, compared with a normal yearly rate of about 3.5%.

According to the American Heart Association, a Kaiser Permanente study found about 62% more heart attack and stroke hospitalizations in the two days after the 2016 election. Wayne looks at the strongest case against his own point. According to a 2022 study in Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, a one-week break from the news had no measurable effect on well-being. He explains what a screening tool is, why it is not a diagnosis, and why stress that feels like trauma is not the same as combat or assault trauma. He also shows why the "rug pulled" feeling is bipartisan. According to Gallup, as reported by The Fiscal Times, 86% of Americans disapprove of Congress, and only 20% of Republicans approve of the Republican-led Congress. He holds both parties to the same ruler. Informed is fine. Consumed is the problem. Know the difference. No co-host. No spin. Just the numbers, the sources, and the questions listeners deserve to hear, without giving either party a free pass. Read the story. Check the source. Make up your own mind. EDITOR'S
