E2270: Why Are You the Problem When You Ask a Fair Question? 10/28

Wayne opens with a familiar double standard: people applaud accountability until it reaches someone they support. Then the questions turn toward the person asking—who got to you, who’s paying you, and whose side are you on? He examines how loyalty can interfere with honest judgment, why supporting someone doesn’t require defending every decision, and how accountability applies in politics, families, workplaces, and relationships. Along the way he covers:

Why criticism of someone we support can feel like a personal attack.
The difference between checking an accusation and automatically dismissing it.
Applying the same standards for evidence to friends and opponents.
How attacking someone’s motives avoids answering their question.
Why “the other side does it too” doesn’t resolve wrongdoing.
Holding people accountable without turning it into revenge or humiliation.
Admitting a mistake—and giving others room to correct theirs.
Supporting someone without surrendering your judgment.

He closes with two questions: what evidence would make you question someone you admire, and what would it take to acknowledge that an accusation against someone you dislike was wrong?
