Paige Spiranac Mocks Hailey Welch Over Meme Coin Collapse

Influencer Paige Spiranac took to social media to mock Hailey Welch, the creator of the “Hawk Tuah girl” meme coin, after its dramatic collapse. The coin, launched on December 4, lost 91% of its value within three hours, according to Dexscreener.

The Hawk Token Launch and Sudden Crash

Welch introduced Hawk on the Solana blockchain, boasting an initial $490 million market cap. While the token briefly surged by 900% from its original value of $0.005492, it quickly crashed to just $41.7 million, raising concerns about market manipulation.

Accusations of Market Manipulation

Reports from Bubblemaps and Dexscreener revealed that 80–90% of Hawk’s supply was controlled by insider wallets and snipers during the launch. These entities, known for buying large amounts of tokens early to sell at a peak, drew criticism for manipulating the market. Welch's team faced backlash for allegedly failing to prevent such actions.

Solana block explorer Solscan identified one sniper wallet that acquired 17.5% of Hawk’s supply shortly after the launch. Using 4,195 Wrapped Solana (worth $993,000), this wallet later sold 135.8 million Hawk tokens within 90 minutes, earning a $1.3 million profit. This transaction further fueled skepticism over the launch’s integrity.

Welch’s Defense Amid Backlash

In a December 4 post on X (formerly Twitter), Welch denied any wrongdoing. She stated her team did not sell tokens and clarified that no key opinion leaders (KOLs) were given free coins. Welch also explained that initial high transaction fees were meant to deter snipers but were later reduced. Despite her defense, criticism persisted.

Paige Spiranac Weighs In

One day after the Hawk controversy erupted, golf influencer Paige Spiranac commented on social media. "If I’ve learned anything, it’s to never release a memecoin," she posted, adding her voice to the ongoing discussion about Hawk's failure.

As a public figure, Spiranac is no stranger to controversy. In September 2022, she faced body-shaming after throwing the first pitch at a Yankees-Brewers game. More recently, in November 2023, she expressed interest in becoming NBC Sports’ lead golf analyst. Her involvement in the Hawk coin discussion highlights her ongoing presence in the public eye.
