Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of X (formerly Twitter), is facing criticism after several conservative influencers had their verification badges removed from the platform. The affected individuals, including Trump ally Laura Loomer, New York Young Republican Club president Gavin Wax, and InfoWars host Owen Shroyer, say their badge removals occurred after they challenged Musk’s views on immigration and his support for the controversial H-1B visa program.

Critics Lose Verification After Immigration Remarks
On Thursday, Loomer and other critics publicly questioned Musk’s stance on H-1B visas, which allow U.S. companies to employ foreign workers in specialized fields, often from countries like India. Loomer, a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump’s restrictive immigration policies, accused Musk of suppressing free speech by retaliating against her comments. She claimed Musk removed her blue check mark and demonetized her account shortly after she posted criticisms.
Loomer wrote on X, “I questioned his support for H-1B visas and the replacement of American tech workers by Indian immigrants. Now, my free speech is being silenced by a tech billionaire.” She also alleged Musk had ties to China, which added to her concerns. In response to the backlash, Loomer redirected followers to Truth Social, Trump’s own social platform.
I feel bad to a degree, but when you keep saying "early phases of censorship," where have you been? This has been happening since Elon took over the platform, yet so many of you have kissed his feet, hugged his chest, and started wearing his shirts.

Verification Disputes Continue
Musk’s supporters argued Loomer lost her badge for altering her profile photo, but Loomer dismissed this claim, stating, “Right after Musk called me a troll, my verification was removed, my subscriptions deactivated, and I was banned from re-subscribing to premium, even though I was already paying for it. Clearly retaliation.”
Similarly, Gavin Wax reported losing his verification badge on Thursday evening. Wax, who has been critical of Musk’s stance on immigration, said his account’s badge suddenly went “under review” with no explanation. Wax expressed his frustration, noting that he had previously praised Musk in public speeches. He commented sarcastically, “Maybe I’ll get my badge back if I claim Americans are lazy and India is the world’s superpower.”
Wax’s complaints echoed concerns from other conservatives who have opposed Musk’s views on immigration. InfoWars host Owen Shroyer described the badge removals as “early-stage censorship” and said they signal a troubling shift on the platform. Shroyer warned, “This feels like the beginning of censorship on X.”
ConservativePAC Responds to Badge Removal
The pro-Trump ConservativePAC and its affiliated accounts also lost their verification on the platform. In a statement, the PAC accused Musk of targeting them for opposing H-1B visas. “All of our influencers lost verification status, as well as our organizational page. This is retaliatory,” the PAC claimed.
Preston Parra, another PAC affiliate, tweeted strong words against Musk, calling him “power-hungry” and accusing him of harming free speech. Parra added, “This is what happens when you hand control to someone who disregards American values.”
Musk’s Comments Deepen Controversy
Compounding the backlash, Musk endorsed a controversial post on Thursday suggesting that Americans lack the skills to fill certain jobs, fueling further outrage. Critics called the post offensive and argued it undermines American workers while justifying the use of foreign labor through H-1B visas. Musk, along with his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) co-chair Vivek Ramaswamy, has openly supported hiring foreign workers, a stance that has alienated some conservative allies.
Growing Concerns About Censorship
The incident has sparked broader questions about free speech and content moderation on X. Musk, who has positioned himself as a champion of free speech, now faces accusations of silencing dissenting voices. Some users argue the platform is moving toward selective enforcement against critics, undermining its credibility as a free expression space.
Moving forward, the controversy over immigration policies and censorship highlights growing tensions between Musk and conservative influencers, many of whom were once his allies. As debates about free speech and content moderation intensify, Musk’s actions will likely face increased scrutiny. Whether X can maintain its commitment to open dialogue while enforcing platform policies remains to be seen.
