Wayne opens with one question: when was the last time you admitted, out loud, that someone you supported was wrong? He explains why political agreement can start to feel like a membership requirement, and how that pressure turns questions into betrayal and accountability into protection. According to a 2022 Pew Research Center survey, 72% of Republicans said Democrats are more immoral than other Americans, and 63% of Democrats said the same about Republicans. Wayne makes the case that free speech makes room for the hard question and independent thought supplies the willingness to ask it. Along the way he covers:
* Applying one standard to both sides.
* Why the First Amendment limits government but doesn’t settle every free-speech argument.
* Checking a viral clip before you share it.
* What it costs to speak up inside your own group.
* George Washington’s 1796 Farewell Address warning about factionalism.
* The responsibility media creators carry, himself included.
He closes with a challenge: check the story, question the excuse, understand the argument, and leave others room to be honest. Then he asks you to tell him about a time you challenged your own side.
Read the story. Check the source. Make up your own mind.
