A Texas mother faces five years in prison after being convicted of inappropriate conduct with her son’s 13-year-old friend. A jury found 46-year-old Natalie Sorrells guilty on two counts of indecency with a child involving sexual conduct. The incidents occurred in Rockwall County, near Dallas, in 2023. Prosecutors alleged that Sorrells engaged in misconduct on multiple occasions, including following a football game and during a birthday party.
Court Verdict Details
The court sentenced Sorrells to two-and-a-half years for each count of indecency. The sentences will run consecutively, totaling five years. Jurors, however, acquitted her of two additional charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child. The trial revealed key evidence, including testimony from the victim and text messages discovered by the boy’s mother.
Allegations and Investigation
The investigation began after the boy’s mother found deleted texts where Sorrells referred to the child as “babe.” Weeks later, the boy disclosed to his mother that Sorrells had molested him. Police conducted a forensic interview with the boy at the Rockwall Children’s Advocacy Center. The boy detailed incidents of inappropriate contact, including one in a car after a football game and another during her son’s birthday party.
Additional Claims and Arrest
The victim also alleged that Sorrells purchased alcohol and tobacco for him and his friends. He stated that Sorrells’ husband once called during an encounter to question whether she was being unfaithful. Police arrested Sorrells in February 2024. She spent six days in jail before posting bond.
Church Statement on Volunteer Role
Sorrells was a volunteer at Lakepointe Church in Rockwall at the time of her arrest. The church clarified that the alleged misconduct did not occur during church events or on its property. In a statement, the church confirmed that it immediately restricted Sorrells’ access to minors, removed her from her volunteer role, and alerted parents as a precaution.
