• New data reveals President Trump has launched nearly as many airstrikes in five months as President Biden did over four years. With expanded authority granted to field commanders, Trump’s second term marks a decisive return to assertive military engagement, particularly in Yemen, Somalia, and Iran — largely outside mainstream media scrutiny.

WASHINGTON, DC (TDR) — The tempo of U.S. airstrikes has sharply accelerated under President Trump’s second term, as new reporting confirms he has already authorized nearly the same number of airstrikes as President Biden did throughout his full administration.

According to The Telegraph, citing the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data (ACLED) project, Trump has launched 529 airstrikes since January — compared to 555 under Biden’s four-year term. The majority of Trump’s strikes have taken place in Yemen, where a concentrated bombing campaign this spring resulted in more than 250 civilian deaths.

Escalation in Somalia, Strikes in Iran

A report from Antiwar.com reveals that 51 airstrikes have already been carried out in Somalia this year — only one of which occurred under Biden, in January. The Trump administration is on pace to surpass its own 2020 record of 63 annual strikes in the region.

Trump has also overseen recent airstrikes in Syria, Iraq, and Iran, targeting nuclear facilities. These actions follow an administrative decision to ease restrictions on U.S. commanders conducting operations outside of declared war zones.

“The US military is moving faster, hitting harder, and doing so with fewer constraints,” said ACLED director Clionadh Raleigh in The Telegraph.
