LOS ANGELES, Calif. (TDR)Lil Nas X, the Grammy-nominated rapper who skyrocketed to fame with “Old Town Road,” was hit with four felony charges Monday after police said he charged at officers while walking naked in Los Angeles.

Felony Charges Filed

Prosecutors said the musician, born Montero Lamar Hill, faces three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer. He had initially been booked on a misdemeanor Friday, but charges were upgraded following review.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office confirmed the charges, which carry potential prison terms, marking the rapper’s most serious legal battle yet.

Police said they encountered Hill just before 6 a.m. Friday on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City. When approached, he allegedly rushed at officers before being subdued. Concerned about a possible overdose, officers transported him to a hospital, where he stayed several hours before being transferred to Valley Jail in Van Nuys.

Video published by TMZ showed the star in underwear and boots performing erratically in the street. In the clip, he warns the person recording, “Didn’t I tell you to put the phone down? Uh oh, someone’s gonna have to pay for that.”

Health Struggles and Public Image

The case arrives as Hill has faced health complications. In April, he revealed to his Instagram followers that he was briefly paralyzed on one side of his face, alarming fans before later reassuring them he was “OK.”

The 26-year-old has cultivated a reputation for pushing cultural boundaries with provocative performances and branding. His “Montero” video sparked conservative backlash in 2021, while his collaboration on “Satan Shoes” led to a lawsuit from Nike.

Hill appeared in Van Nuys Superior Court Monday alongside attorney Christy O’Connor for arraignment. He did not enter a plea but is expected to do so at a follow-up hearing.

Authorities said Hill has remained in custody since Friday. Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Charles Miller confirmed his detention status and said no bail decision has yet been finalized.

Career at a Crossroads

Since 2018, Lil Nas X has been one of pop culture’s most visible disruptors. His “Old Town Road” dominated charts for a record 19 weeks and reshaped conversations about genre boundaries. His debut album, Montero, earned Grammy nominations and established him as a global star.

But the same audacity that fueled his rise has left him a lightning rod. From bold fashion statements at award shows to outspoken commentary on identity and sexuality, Hill has continuously challenged mainstream expectations.

Now, with four felony charges and health questions looming, the rapper faces not just a legal trial but a test of whether his career can withstand its most turbulent chapter.

Is Lil Nas X’s latest battle a temporary stumble — or the breaking point of a star who thrived on provocation?
